Ava Valsten

Ava Valsten is an artist and lives in Burseryd.

Valsten works with both abstract and representational worlds of motifs within analog photography alongside text. Primarily, the camera serves as a kind of extension of both an inner and outer vision. As Cartier-Bresson says, with one eye I look out to the world and with the other I look inward. Two gazes that become the material and technique where one sees the other within oneself. This is how Ann-Marie AVA Valsten thinks of the camera.

The artworks are created from her relationships to memories, to readings of individual photographs, archetypal texts, and from her eternal dialogue with her lost family from archives, both living and dead. Behind the artworks lies a strong need to seek legitimacy in order to be able to display them publicly.
