Ett frö är en sten tills det sås

Linda Persson and Dr. Liam Sprod artistically and philosophically stretch concepts related to stone, between quarries and the site's biological diversity, at Hård Klang, Vånevik.

Stretching the concepts around stone in a place like Vånevik creates opportunities for the imaginary. History and culture are not just a single entity, and like a stone, we must engage with its various layers and textures both backward and forward in time. In Småland, we encounter places that, through different eras, have seen/sees nature merely as an economic resource. The quarries are no exception. But what happens to a place when the economic exploitation and resources are exhausted, abandoned?

We dare to assert that it is precisely art and the imaginary, imagination, the ability to envision, that is an unlimited immaterial resource that can take over and breathe new life into places. With the biological diversity documented in the last 5 years by Agneta Andersson and Marit Stigsdotter (Hård Klang association), nature has been able to reclaim and enable non-human activities that thrive in new ecosystems. Last summer, we both participated in a stone carving course without machines through Hård Klang at the Stone Carving Museum in Vånevik.

Through our participation in the Småland Triennale, we will lay the foundation for a long-term exploration of the place we have chosen to live in - Småland, Small Land, starting from the coast in Vånevik.

During the course of the project, we want to invite specific walks and create conversations to cultivate the immaterial together. We plan to produce a publication that activates ideas and imagery around psychogeography, which will become one of our methods for igniting how urban desires are directly linked to these places.

The imaginary will stand as our cornerstone, and we will create constellations that intertwine different time periods and ecosystems.
