"Late Arrival" is the name of a two-part film project that is based on individual examples of Christian and communist organization in a Småland context.
David Torstensson premieres the essay film "To Be Right" (2023) during the triennial, where a father's involvement in a small communist vanguard party is contrasted with his free church family background.
As part of the working process for the second part, the film project "The Reading Society", he tests educational and artistic strategies based on the project house Siggalycke Folk School to measure proximity and distance to a small Christian revival movement that, in the late 18th century, is said to have collectivized its property to serve God full time.
The revival took place over a few intense years in Ljuder, Linneryd, and Älmeboda parishes and has come to be known in established historiography as the Åkian movement, named after its central figure Åke Swensson. However, during its time, the movement was referred to by other names such as the schismatic people, the separatist band, the Åkian sect, and the reading society. In his work, Torstensson has primarily chosen to refer to them as the latter, as that was what they were called in a letter by the initially supportive parish priest Bengt Ekeberg.
The discussion and the two screenings at Biograf Fokus are conducted in collaboration with Jönköping Municipality.
