The unique and mythical place Karnaberg is located in ancient forest between Ålebo and Påryd, south of Kalmar. The mountain is a so-called block height and consists of large boulders that the inland ice has pulled together. There are numerous stories tied to the place. In September, an artistic light and sound show will be set up in Karnaberg. The performance merges ancient tales with a contemporary expression in music, dance, new circus, and light projections. The past meets the present in a suggestive show with the peculiar and spectacular block height as the stage.
The work is based on the story of the girl Karna who lived in the village of Kättilshult. One day, while she and her little sister are herding goats near the large stone pile, she is lured there by the trolls that dwell in the dark holes and tunnels. The unsuspecting girl is drawn towards the mountain's whispering voices and suddenly she has lost her sister. She moves up the boulders and becomes increasingly bound by the trolls' power. Family, relatives, and friends follow the sister back to the mountain to look for her, but Karna has vanished without a trace. The enchanted girl realizes that the chance to escape is slim, desperately and unhappily she longs for home. To cheer her up, the mountain's spirits and beings arrange for dance, merriment, and tricks. Perhaps the mountain's inhabitants do not have malicious intentions but want to treat Karna to an unforgettable feast? The people live in a parallel time and reality in relation to the beings that have existed in the forest and mountain since time immemorial. On a fantastic and enchanted night, a tear emerges in the fabric that separates them. In the end, the sisters are reunited. Karna, who has only been gone one night, is still young and beautiful, but one night in the mountain was a lifetime in the village, and the little sister is now an aged old woman.
Karl Magnus Petersson is an artist and the artistic initiator of the project. The performance has been developed in collaboration with Joakim Engstrand, director and producer, Ida Idée Olsson, songwriter and artist, Peder Nabo, musician, Daniel Brandt, musician, and Kompani Error.
