Middle Ground – And Making Sense of Everything

Middle Ground – And Making Sense of Everything
Solo exhibition by Ailin Mirlashari

Western hall at Växjö Art Hall
Date: June 9 – September 16

In the exhibition Middle Ground – and Making Sense of Everything, Ailin Mirlashari creates a dreamlike meeting place, a magical living room, where the essence of interpersonal connections and everything that branches out from it can engage in free and safe discussions about identity, ambiguity, grief, hope, and joy.

In the summer exhibition at Växjö Konsthall, artist Ailin Mirlashari envelops the hall in warmth, vulnerability, and courage. She creates spaces that turn revolutionary expressions inside out – away from the aesthetics of aggression and towards a life-affirming and emotionally permissive flow of energy that exudes strength, humor, and will.

Through her lens, one can glimpse the human behind the notions and narratives that are constantly created and retold. In the big questions surrounding existence combined with specific experiences, feelings, and dilemmas, there are real encounters to be experienced. Across physical, geographical, and social borders.

Within the framework of her artistry, Mirlashari creates spaces for liberation, joy, and sorrow, which unfold in choreographed video works, improvised performances, collective murals, calligraphy, and clothing. Together, they form a movement in both fresh tears and pure joy, in warm sorrow and amidst cold landscapes alongside populations from what are called vulnerable areas.

And in doing so, Mirlashari perhaps lays the foundation for what a home really is? A place where thoughts, self-perceptions, and strategies can be tested together, to live in negotiation with one's surroundings yet still become whole.
