Amanda Cardell (1972) was born in Ljungby, residing in Stockholm and Hälsingland. Educated at artistic higher education institutions in Sweden, Norway, and Belgium. She works as a freelance visual artist and has been particularly engaged in the conditions of art in Småland for the past five years. Through collaborations, residencies, dialog processes, and conversations, her commitment has developed into cultural projects, site-specific works, and exhibitions, such as a solo exhibition at Alvesta Exhibition Hall, artist-in-residence in the Kronoberg region, a stay at Elin Wägner's Lilla Björka, and a design assignment for Kulturhuset Grand in Ljungby.
Her artistic process and method are rooted in what we can call spatial awareness; it involves sensitivity to the site, the materials, and the context, where she approaches an architectural building, a bog, or a square with openness and an informed gaze. She delves into historical layers, expertise, and contemporary issues, exploring a variety of materials and techniques, often everyday objects infused with new meaningful content.
Cardell's work has previously been exhibited at the Centre Culturel Suédois in Paris, the limestone quarry at Oaxen, Eskilstuna Art Museum, the Sankei-En garden in Yokohama, Japan, the Vigeland Museum in Oslo, and most recently at Stuff it, Bonniers Konsthall, Konst och Anda at the Music Quarter, as well as Söderhamns Konstförening Kvarnen. She is represented by Statens Konstråd, Folkets Hus och Parker, Region Sörmland, among others.
