Program
On Saturday, September 23rd at 2 PM, the second of two screenings of David Torstensson's essay film Att ha rätt will take place at Bio Fokus in Jönköping. In conjunction with the screening, Per Hasselberg will lead a subsequent discussion with David Torstensson, religious scholar Peter Carlsson, and author Elisabeth Hjort. The film is approximately 35 minutes long, and the discussion will last an hour.
In the essay film To Be Right, a father's involvement in a small communist vanguard party is examined in relation to his free church background through a narrative voice. Can the classless society and the kingdom of heaven be said to resemble each other in their respective promises of another world? And how can a theological perspective contribute to a redefinition of the father's political legacy?
To Be Right forms one part of the two-part film project “For Late Arrival,” which is based on individual examples of communist and Christian organizing in a Småland context. During the Småland Biennale, Torstensson is also working on the project's other part, called The Reading Society, where he tests artistic and pedagogical strategies to measure proximity and distance to the revival movement Åkianerna, who in the late 18th century collectivized their farms to serve God full-time.
During the Småland Biennale, To Be Right will be shown on August 26th and September 23rd at Biograf Fokus in Jönköping, as well as at Kalmar Art Museum on a rolling schedule between September 2nd and 17th. In connection with the screening at Fokus on September 23rd, a subsequent conversation will be held between David Torstensson, religious scholar Peter Carlsson, and author Elisabeth Hjorth, moderated by Per Hasselberg.
The conversation and the two screenings at Biograf Fokus are conducted in collaboration with Jönköping Municipality.
