The district was established in 2022 to embrace and promote the diverse art landscape of Småland. Primarily, we work through the Småland Biennale, which gathers art actors of various sizes and organizational forms. The district places great importance on facilitating the informal, spontaneous, and grassroots-created initiatives. We work with great curiosity in rural areas, small towns, and cities. There, we create contexts for art projects that can illuminate the Småland landscape as a geographical and social sphere. In this way, we address everything from soil composition, the designed living environment, pressing climate issues, what it means to be where we are now, to how we relate to one another.
