Sketch walk on the animals' paths

Join us for a unique art experience where we together explore the animal paths through the landscape of Slottsalvaret, Öland.

In a landscape shaped by grazing livestock, the presence of animals has created characteristic natural types and a rich biodiversity. These trails carry a cultural history that we now wish to explore through a collective art process. We invite you to participate in our public sketch walk, where we will together sketch, explore, and discover the landscape. Sketching becomes a way to see and understand the place and our presence there.

We'll meet in the parking lot outside Solliden. Keep an eye out for our mobile art hall (a white van)! No prior knowledge is required. The event is free. Registration: s(at)sofiaart.com
We will be moving in uneven terrain, so remember to wear sturdy shoes!

More about the project:
We want to investigate the possibility of including animal trails in an art process where sketching and abstract thinking is a collective process. The project will take place at Slottsalvaret, Öland, a pasture-influenced landscape where the presence of animals has created unique natural types and a rich biodiversity. The movements of livestock over the centuries have created trails that carry a hidden cultural history.
Through collective sketch walks, we will map these animal trails and examine the patterns their movements have drawn in the landscape. Sketching becomes a way to see and discover the place, where participants are co-creators in the artistic process. To sketch means to experiment, to explore one's surroundings, and to show one's thoughts to others. It is an invitation to participate in a thought process around change, movement, spatiality, time, history, and transience.
The sketch walks will be open to the public and documented in a simple printed material. Additionally, the project will gain a longer life and reach a larger audience through a popup art hall during the Harvest Festival. This art hall, in the form of a white box on the back of a van, will display artworks related to the site and documentation from the sketch walks.
For the project, we invite guest artist Linda Bergman, who will accompany the sketch walks and respond to her experiences.
The sketch walks are an experimental art process where participants create art in motion, explore animal trails and the landscape, and contribute to a collective thought process between sketch and performance.

The artists Helena Wikestam and Sofia Sundberg are collaborating with Smålandstriennalen and Konstfrämjandet Småland.
