Structured reading "Wasteshop"

The Nature Conservation Area Marhult continues with a deepening anthology based on the art project. As a conclusion to a text and image production period in the summer of 2024, the results will be presented in a staged reading/viewing "Wasteshop."

As part of the Småland Biennale 2023, artist Timo Menke initiated the project Nature Culture Reserve Marhult to artistically challenge and inventory the site surrounding the controversial illegal waste dump in Marhult (Uppvidinge). The dump is classified as a risk-assessed contaminated area that, according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, poses a significant risk to humans and the environment. Timo Menke invited artists, researchers, and other participants to collaboratively work with the contaminated site through artistic processes. The project has been presented through several curated events, including the Nature Culture workshop “Waste-in-progress” (Marhult) and the Nature Culture Festival “Wastestock” (Dädesjö) during 2023.

Work on the Nature Culture Reserve continues with a deepening anthology based on the art project. As a conclusion to a text and image production period in the summer of 2024, the results will be presented at a curated reading/viewing “Wasteshop” on Friday, August 23, from 16:00 to 18:00 at the Växjö Art Hall, featuring a selection of participants residing/active in Småland, including Omran Garazhian, Leila Papoli-Yazdi, Liv Nilsson Stutz, Zeenath Hasan, Åsa Ståhl, and Timo Menke.

The publication Nature Culture Reserve Marhult is expected to be released in the summer of 2025. With support from Konstfrämjandet Småland, Växjö Art Hall and in collaboration with Linnaeus University (The Cultural University) and the publishing house Arvinius + Orfeus.
