The Road

The work The Path by Magnus Wassborg is placed in urban settings and along hiking trails in various locations in Småland.

The work consists of two QR codes linked to two audio pieces, about birds in their habitat or that have passed the singularity. The singularity, as described in fiction, is primarily found within the SciFi genre. There, one passes through a black hole with a spacecraft or hides in what science calls the event horizon, where no information can be detected or transported out. What happens when the birds pass the event horizon and are compressed to a nanoscale? Wassborg's audio work may give us an idea of what occurs. Wassborg's infinite compression of bird sounds recorded in their natural habitat becomes, of course, something else and unidentifiable as natural sounds from nature.

The audio work can be found here:

Magnus Wassborg's art has, for 30 years, illuminated questions about nature versus humanity, in both physical and theoretical works. Since 1995, Wassborg has utilized autonomous sculptures powered by solar, wind, water, cold, and heat, along with video works, performative strategies, painting, and audio pieces. Wassborg has, at times, taught at three of Sweden's art schools in fine arts. Wassborg was employed as a supervisor in the early 2000s on the experimental development platform CRAC, funded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Magnus Wassborg graduated in 1999 from Konstfack with a Master of Fine Arts.
