Theater School in Siggalycke

The theater school in Siggalycke invites you to an open performance where the school will showcase what they have been working on during the week. Free entry, refreshments, and discussions!

Week 31, from Monday, June 29th to Saturday, August 3rd, the Theater School part 1 will be held at Siggalycke Folk School, between Tingsryd and Linneryd. The school is open to 35 participants and is structured through four tracks where each participant chooses one to follow during the week. The idea is to take a starting point in historical re-enactment as a genre in open understanding and as the first theater school, it will also be a first attempt to explore the relationship between theater and school.

Track 1: Puppet Theater based on historical dreams
is provided by Erik Homström (SE), artistic leader at Malmö Puppet Theater, and will work on how puppet theater can portray dreams recorded under specific historical circumstances.
Track 2: Dig where you stand
is provided by the collective artist persona Rose Hammer (NO/SE) and will work on setting up a scene connected to local Småland history, probably related to the emergence of folk schools.
Track 3: Civic collaboration
is provided by Sara Baban and Hanan Benammar (FR/AL/NO/KU/IQ) and will work from the historical fact that five women were condemned to death for witchcraft as responsible for the city fire in Oslo in 1624.
Track 4: When the light goes out
is a track for children and accompanying adults and is provided by Hannah Anbert and Line Grimlund. The track starts from the premise that participants get to build their own mask to see what creatures emerge when they put them on and explore light and darkness through shadow play.

The Theater School in Siggalycke is in collaboration with Smålandstriennalen and Konstfrämjandet Småland.
